Creating a Shop Using CI - Question
#1

Hey,

I have a client wanting me to implement a shopping cart to a website I am developing for him. Is it worth building from scratch using CI's Shopping Cart library (http://ellislab.com/codeigniter/user-gui.../cart.html) or would you recommend using something like 'Community Cart' or 'Kaimono Kago v1.1a Beta'?

I have followed through the nettut's tutorial on building a shopping cart using http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/co...ping-cart/ and read other documentation, although I'm just wondering from experience, what you would recommend.

Cheers.

Why reinvent the wheel. Look at some of the carts out there and see if they fit your needs. If they don't then code it yourself.

By the way Magento seems to be very popular these days: http://www.magentocommerce.com/

As you have a client I would lean toward implementing an existing solution rather than code your own as they will want to see some results quicker (it will take ages to write your own I would think, unless it was quite basic).

Magento also may be a bit too heavy/extreme, depends on the size of the client and what they want.
