Removing unwanted set of characters beore insert

I am scanning hardware barcodes and some of the part numbers have at the end "#ABA"

Is there a easy way to remove this from the insert so it is not added to the db?


Also, does anyone know of some js code that can auto tab the form fields or have an idea on automating the collection process of ticket number, make, model, serial, and part numbers?
