Is CI the right choice for a website I have in mind ?

Hi All,
I am kind of new to PHP and web programming, but have dabbled a bit in hacking code to fit on some sites I have made.

I have been asked to make a site that is a comparison site for different products.
Much like this one.

My question is, what technology do I need to learn to get this site running ?

I am assuming that CI would be able to handle the basic logic of pulling the data from the database and presenting it on a view layer as per that site.

I also assume that a little java will be needed to make the columns move around like they do on that site.

All I really need is some guidance on which path I should concentrate on to get where I need to go.

Any help much appreciated.
