Connecting to an Azure SQL DB

hey all,

has anyone dealt with an Azure SQL db with codeigniter? i found a library for both codeigniter as well as a php-sdk for it, but i've had zero luck with about a day's worth of attempts. i really have no clue what's going on at this point, where i'm messing up, etc., it's just a huge jumble of trial and error after error after error.

if anyone has had success i'd love to get some of your input, trouble points you had, etc.
