check out the nightly builds of netbeans 7, unlike netbeans 6.5 on OS X it doesn't look like the interface was designed by a blind baboon after taking some bad acid. it's nice and fast and only about 25Mb to download.

GitNub is great for visualizing what's going on but you should get comfortable using the command line.

A good book to check out is "Pragmatic Version Control Using Git" (www.pragprog.com)
